The Wonder of it All…
Is it even possible for us to conceive the awe Mary must have felt when the angel Gabriel came to her and told her, not only had she found the favor of God, but that SHE would be the one carrying the Savior?
To imagine the astonishment the shepherds must have experienced? Here they were on another night in their fields, like so many others, until it wasn’t. Until it became the night that mattered—when they were invited by angels to meet the newborn King.
To fathom the amazement of the wise men when they saw the star in the sky that signaled the birth of a new king? How their hearts must have skipped a beat long before they fell on their knees to worship Him.
In this world where we face fear everywhere, in our schools, places of work, and even our entertainment venues. Where selfies, social media, pages of lists, black Friday, cyber Monday, and 27 versions of Santa Baby are the rule, it’s understandable that we have lost the wonder of this season.
Is there any way to get our hearts set back to the moment of that star?
Can we turn down all of the noise and open our ears to hear the whole group of Angels declaring the peace that now exists because of Him?
Is it still possible to be so overcome with the wonder of all that we fall on our knees?
I want to.
Just like the Child that was lying in that manger, and those that looked upon him that first night when, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us…” John 1:14 (NIV)
This year may your heart be filled with the wonder of that first Christmas.
